Latest statement from Hertfordshire Catering regarding meat products
Hertfordshire Catering is aware of the FSAI (Food Safety Authority of Ireland) investigations and subsequent press reports in January 2013 relating to the finding of horse and pig meat in retail beef burgers.
We are also aware of the recent press releases and communications from FSA relating to the finding of horse meat in Findus Beef Lasagne.
These reports are alongside recent press coverage relating to traces of porcine protein which have been found in Halal products supplied to the Ministry of Justice and we understand that these investigations are ongoing.
We would like to reassure all our customers that no Hertfordshire Catering products are sourced from the suppliers named (to date) and none of our products have been implicated in any of these findings. As a further precaution we are currently undertaking appropriate research and testing of specific products in conjunction with Hertfordshire Trading Standards department.
Hertfordshire Catering would like to reassure all our customers that we do not use ‘ready prepared’ meals within our food offer. All our meals are freshly prepared from scratch on a daily basis, by our skilled catering teams in school kitchens across the county.
We would also confirm that our minced beef is sourced from farms directly located in the Eastern Counties of the UK.
Furthermore, we are pleased to report that our other beef products come from a company that only uses British beef and does not trade in EU or in any other imported meat.
Our suppliers follow rigorous manufacturing standards and specifications to ensure they meet agreed product specifications and prevent any cross-contamination and comply with all relevant UK and EU legislation"
